Has the Age of Innocence Vanished?

The other day I went shopping to Reliance TimeOut hoping to pick up some books that have been on my “To Read list” for quite some time. While I was shopping, I heard a large bang. I was looking around to see what the noise was, when I saw a panicked kid, not more than 2 feet tall, running towards the exit of the store shouting that there was a bomb in the store. One of the employees of the store managed to catch hold of the kid and explain to her that there was not a bomb blast, but a party pooper blast!!

I appreciate the parents of the child who have managed to drill down the basics of “keeping safe” very well into the kid’s mind. But, I cannot help but wonder. During my childhood, if ever I heard a bang, my first reaction would be to search for the place where the balloon burst. And, if possible, get hold of a balloon for myself! Contrast that to the reaction of this kid. Has the innocence vanished in kids too? Or is this cut for the new age module – Innocence 2.0?
